REVIEWS: First Drive: 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe

May 25, 2011

According to http://www.automobilemag.com

The addition of a two-door coupe to the C-class lineup has given AMG the opportunity to expand the family of its popular C63 AMG model. Currently offered as a sedan and (in Europe) a wagon, the C63 adds a coupe variant for the 2012 model year. Mechanically, the coupe and sedan are identical, with one significant upgrade coming to both for 2012. The two-door is the same size as its four-door sibling, but its lower body, more intimate cabin, and sportier styling make it a racier distillation of the C63 formula.

Familiar motivator
The C63 coupe’s 6.2-liter V-8 is an engine that we know (and love) from the C63 sedan-and elsewhere in the AMG line-up. What do we love about it? The deep rumble on start-up, its quick bark during full-throttle upshifts, the roar as it passes by at full gallop, and of course the tremendous response, which is both linear and lag-free. But the big V-8 actually is on its way out; it has already been replaced by a smaller, 5.5-liter bi-turbo V-8 in the CL63 and the S63, the blown 5.5 powers the new CLS63 AMG, and for 2012 it steps in for the 6.2-liter in the E63 as well. Why not use it here? The answer, from AMG’s head of product development Tobias Moers, is that the 5.5-liter biturbo makes more torque than the smaller C-class chassis can handle (516 pound-feet in the E63). ……………………..

How’s it look? Rendered in matte gray, the upscale CLS sedan morphs into something as menacing as a Predator missile, under which are aluminum doors, hood, front clip and trunk lid. The optional AMG Performance package adds a carbon-fiber hood and rear spoiler along with suspension upgrades and nicer trim

The world’s largest Ambulance, a Mercedes Benz

May 18, 2009

Quoted from “The Motor Report”

It might not get you to the emergency room in record time (unless the record is ‘fastest trip to hospital in a coach‘), but by the looks of the extensive refit this Mercedes-Benz Citaro bus has received, you might not even need to see the inside of a hospital.

Benz and BMW Merger??

May 4, 2009

Troubled Chrysler long been a problem for Daimler AG. After President Obama refusal to rescue one of the big three auto company in the states, Chrysler have filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. Since the merger in 1998 between Daimler and Chrysler,  Daimler was only able to sell off the last of its 19.9% stake in Chrysler last week, and that is after an agreement to pay up to USD600 million into the Chrysler’s pension fund (Wikipedia).

What is next for Daimler then? Can the century old company be able to weather the financial crisis? From the merger of Fiat-Chrysler-Opel, does it mean that the only way to survive this storm is through M&A? With shrinking demand for auto vehicles and increasing cost of research and development, what might be the best option left?

According to globeandmail.com, it seem that Mercedes Benz have been talking to BMW of possible linkup in certain area of their businesses. However, in the context of protecting brand name and their ego, this “linkup” might be more of an affair than a full on marriage (globeandmail). So don’t be expecting a Benz/BMW baby coming out anytime soon, as least not officially for the record.
